Murchison Falls is located on the Nile River within the Murchison Fall National Park in North-Western Uganda. The Victoria Nile River is compresses through a rocky gap approximately 7m wide known as the Devils Couldron and then the river explodes out and falls 40m down to the river bed below. This turbulent water, rich in oxygen is a favorite hangout for some giant Nile Perch and some world class sport fishing. The river banks teem with wildlife and this is a great destination for those interested in nature as well as fishing.
This fishing Safari begins in Entebbe, a city located on the edge Lake Victoria which is another great destination to fish for Nile Perch. From Entebbe you make a 6 hour journey in a 4×4 up North to the Murchison Falls National Park. Alternatively scheduled flights (minimum 3 persons) or charter flights can be used between Entebbe and Murchison Falls National Park, these are at an additional cost which is provided upon request. your accommodation will be at a lodge located in the National park with perfect access to the fishing destinations.
Sport Fishing at Murchison Falls National Park is currently conducted in the area at the base of the falls. The fishing is either from the rocks on the bank of the river or slightly lower down stream in the pools from a boat. Access to the fishing spots is either by boat from a point further down stream or by walking down the gorge to the river from the top of the falls. It’s a long steep climb back up (around 45 minutes for a reasonably fit person) and hence most people tend to go fishing equipped for the day to avoid climbing up in the heat of the day.
