Known as the Pearl of Africa Uganda is a land locked country which offers the best of everything in Africa. Uganda is home to Lake Victoria which is the largest lake in Africa and one of Africa’s great lakes, Lake Victoria is also the main source of the White Nile River which flows north to become the largest river in Africa. Bwindi Impenetrable forest is the home to the largest primate’s in the world – the Mountain Gorilla’s. The country is home to 10 National Parks and contains over 1000 different bird species which is approximately 11% of the world’s total bird species. In its lakes and rivers you will also find the World’s largest fresh water fish species the Nile Perch.
Uganda is extremely safe despite its political past and tourism is growing fast with so much to explore. There is endless possibilities for those that are adventures and explorers at heart.
Murchison Falls is located on the Nile River within the Murchison Fall National Park in North-Western Uganda. The Victoria Nile River is compresses through a rocky gap approximately 7m wide known as the Devils Couldron and then the river explodes out and falls 40m down to the river bed below. This turbulent water, rich in oxygen is a favorite hangout for some giant Nile Perch and some world class sport fishing. The river banks teem with wildlife and this is a great destination for those interested in nature as well as fishing.
One of Africa’s great lakes and the largest lake in Africa, the lake is the largest contributor of water to the White Nile River which joins the Blue Nile in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum. Before the introduction of Nile Perch and Tilapia to its waters in the 1950’s and 1960’s it was known a multi-species fishery with over 500 species of fish. Today the variety of species have been devastated by the introduction of Nile Perch. Nile Perch thrive in these waters and it is an anglers paradise for those keen to lure the World’s largest fresh water species which can grow up to 200 kilograms.
Recommended Fishing Seasons: December to March and June to October.
Fishing is good all year round bust best to avoid full moons and the April to May rainy season.
Uganda is tropical destination located on the equator, most of the year is sunny with little temperature variation and an annual average temperature of 26 degrees Celsius. The rainy season is from March to May and October to November. Best to avoid the rainy season for comfortable fishing conditions. As Uganda is a tropical destination you can expect rain at any time of the year.
